The Modern Atlanta Home Tour is a two day self-guided tour of homes in Atlanta. The architecture tour is mostly private residences, but occasionally a few commercial buildings are featured. It is usually held on a weekend in mid June – MA was founded in 2007. The tour is the finale of “Design is Human Week” – a week of speakers and events focusing on design, sustainability, and innovation.

This home was a renovation/addition.
The exterior: the second story on the left is a two-story height kitchen, on the right, the second story spaces are bedrooms.
This was a floor plan so visitors could see where specific furnishings were located throughout the house. It was just nice to be provided with any sort of floor plan… for some reason, none of the homes have floor plan information either at the home itself or in the MA! book.
On the left is the first floor with the entry and kitchen toward the bottom right corner. The floor plan on the right is the (rotated counter clockwise) second floor:
A look at the before/after renovation information:
View from the entry: kitchen on the left, living spaces on the right and behind the far wall (with a tall “window” opening):
Looking to the right at the formal living room:
The kitchen on the left with a dining space in the background:
The back side of the house – dining and living space separated by a brick fireplace:
Second living room with a vertical “window” through to the stairs/front foyer:
Looking back at the second living room:
Walking backwards into the hallway which also doubles as the stairwell. Through the “window”, you can see guests entering from the foyer.
Both living rooms on either side of the stairwell/hall:
A different angle of the front living room:
Turning around, with the stairs behind, looking down the first floor hallway:
A large closet at the end of the hallway:
Master bath with marble mosaic floor- the shower is to the left and water closet is behind the solid door:
The ample cabinet and countertop space:
This bathroom really did feel like something was missing… even thought the toilet was hidden, which can be a typical design idea, the shape of the bathroom was just strange. I appreciate the space, but the water closet seamed to just jut out into the space.
Back in the hallway looking into a nursery/office:
A small office/nursery which holds a laundry closet…. so, technically not a bedroom? Just a weirdly placed utility room/mudroom? Looking back from this angle, you can see that this is definitely part of the master suite – because the door is located off of the hallway.
Repositioning to take a look at the second floor:
At the top of the stairs, on the left, is a “mini” master suite:
The second master’s bathroom with access to the closet:
A Jack and Jill bathroom connects bedrooms #3 & 4:
