Here is our master bedroom ready for an update. Currently, it features brown painted (not stained) closet doors, hunter green rough-hewen storefront window trim, brown stained casings & baseboard, white carpet, and pale yellow walls. (Also a stomped ceiling and badly painted fan… but we’re not changing those right now.)
We had already pulled up some carpet because the hardwood floor came into this room from the foyer (due to it being on a diagonal). For scale, that’s a king size head board. You can also see the impressions in the carpet from the previous owner’s furniture.
Because we could see the problem from the foyer and because we had pulled up the carpet, we knew we had a little slope in the floor by the foyer door.
The ceilings slope up from about 9’5″ to 16′ 10″.
State of the room: two types of window trim and color against yellow walls that trick you into thinking they are white. We prepped the walls by patching any little holes and cracks with drywall mud.
A sort of fun before and after. The unfinished floor in the master bedroom and finished walnut hardwood floor in the foyer.
Apparently there was some water damage at one point in this corner. I think the window above had moisture penetration issues from the rain flowing down the diagonal siding and hitting the window. On the exterior, it looked like it had been caulked and repainted multiple times.
Gross. A very slight dusting of mold behind the baseboard. I will say, this house had a lot of roach poop, but not a lot of mold thankfully.
Such a professional job of installing the vents.
The tackstrip looks like it was pretty saturated at one point but it is dry now.
Evidence of moisture on the window sill… but I think this is more from the window being left open while it was raining.
Broken seal on the windows creating fog. (This is a problem in other areas of the home as well.)
The lovely hunter green cedar trim with paint on the glass.
It’s really hard to clean rough-hewen cedar.
I tried getting the dirt off with duct tape.
Here, (now that the window trim has at least one coat of white paint) you can see how yellow the walls actually were. I’ll give this another coat.
Now, after that little color and moisture tour: next we will paint the walls, trim, and closet doors!
